Our Aim

Our aim at Burpengary Swim School is to conduct swimming classes that embrace the concepts of swim and survive whilst learning through play and to provide the community with a quality program with measured outcomes. Our program is structured to be ability-based, whilst also taking into consideration your child’s physical and emotional development. Levels range from Learn to Swim for Babies through to Adults, Special Needs classes and Junior Squad.

Our Instructors

We undertake regular in house training to ensure consistencies in teaching methods and to continually develop our own skills and knowledge.

Our Learn To Swim Levels

We have nine (9) learn to swim levels (which are show below) plus our squad training.

Bubba Splash

3 to 6 months of age - this class is where water is introduced. In this class you will be shown all the basics to get your child on their way to water awareness. How to safely enter and exit the water with baby, how to hold them in the water confidently, little songs and just a fun splash about the pool. Mums/dads/grandparents, whoever wants to be part is more than welcome to take a turn with bub.

Starfish

6 months to 15 months of age - the start of a more structured learn to swim class. This fun filled 'mums and bubs' class is where swimming skills being. They start splashing, kicking, blowing bubbles, and learning all the fundamentals to start them on their way. This is also a great class for new mums to meet other mums and baby to form a bond.

Jellyfish

15 months to 24 months of age - this is still a 'mums and bubs' class however the children are starting to develop and become more independent in the water. We promote building confidence, water awareness and safety through a range of activities. By the end of this class they should be happy in the water and confident to swim without mum.

Octopus

2 years of age and over - Our first level without mum in the water. This is a great start to getting your child swimming independently. In this level we promote water awareness and safety. This class is the base line to increasing movement in the water with and without the use of aids. We encourage the children to have fun and enjoy the water whilst still in a learning environment.

Stingray

This level is building on the skills that have been taught in the previous class and reinforcing water safety. Freestyle stroke is begun in this level, aiming to swim 5-6 metres of basic freestyle with a strong kick. Their backstroke kicking is refined also.

Seals

In this class the students are beginning to learn bi-lateral breathing to develop a stronger and more technical freestyle stroke. Their backstroke arms are also introduced to provide a strong swimming basis. The aim of a seal class is to swim a very strong and confident 12.5m of technical freestyle and backstroke.

Orca

This class is the first level in our 25 metre pool. In this class focus on refining freestyle and backstroke, whilst increasing the fitness levels and distance swum. Treading water is begun in this class, and diving technique. We like the children to be at a strong standard before they move on so they don’t find it a struggle once in the next level.

Hammerhead

The hammerhead increases the distances swum in freestyle and backstroke, focusing on fine tuning of these strokes. This level introduces flippers for warm up, and breaststroke. We begin with the legs and with time a full stroke is developed with perfect timing.

Great White

Our Great White class is the last of the learn to swim levels. Flippers are used in this level. As the rest of our levels, all strokes are refined, and distances are increased to build strength and fitness. Butterfly is introduced in Great White. We develop further with tumble turns, touch turns and race starts. Once finishing this level you are welcome to join our junior squad sessions.
