How old does my baby need to be to start lessons?

We offer 'Bubba Splash' for 3-6 month olds. This is a class that introduces water and the children have fun and splash about.
Our Starfish class is a more formal class which starts lessons from 6 months old, however you can begin water introduction at home, from the day you bring your child home from hospital. Water cans area great utensil to use in the bath for the first few months; gently pour water over your baby's head from back to front, allowing the water to slowly drizzle over their faces for around 3 to 5 seconds. Always use cue words before performing any water familiarisation activity, such as READY, SET, GO.
It is not recommended to immerse your baby until you have been shown proper immersion procedures, and immersion should only occur when in the presence of a qualified infants instructor. Young children should never be left unsupervised around water.

This is up to personal preference, there is advantages and disadvantages to wearing and not wearing goggles. For ease of learning and to avoid eye irritation, it can be beneficial to wear goggles. From a safety aspect (eg. If they fall into water without goggles) it is very important that they know how to swim without goggles as well. Throughout the term, all children will be encouraged to spend some time swimming without their goggles, especially during designated Water Safety Weeks.

How long will it take my child to Learn to Swim?

Unfortunately, this is an unanswerable question. Every child develops at a different rate - even within siblings. It will depend on many factors, including their ability to understand instructions, how comfortable they are in the water environment, how comfortable they are with their Instructor, their maturity levels, physical barriers and the list goes on and on.
